Fuzzy maps - crownland use atlas162 viewsThis map has the most accurate representation of water vs dry land. But it's unlikely that you wil have it on you as you try to make your way across the bush.....Sep 12, 2008

Fuzzy maps - Garmin topomap184 viewsif you were out in the field, it would tell you just fine where in relationship to the large lakes and the elevation lines you are, but there is no hint of the wet obstructions that are ahead of you as you are trying to cross the land.Sep 12, 2008

French River train derailment145 viewsAugust 10th there was a derailment just north of the French River Supply Post on the CP line. There were 3 tankers and a couple of boxcars. Apparently the contents of the tankers was diesel fuel. I was unable to find any information about this incident online but I did get through to the investigator from the Sudbury Ministry of Environment today. He said that the spill was minor, 100 to 1000 liters of fuel at most leaked out and feels that it was all contained before it got into the river. The clean up is Aug 22, 2008

High water on Ezma Lake722 viewsEven though it is in the middle of August 2008, the lake level is like in spring. The shrubs (meadowsweet) stand still in the water, and many trees along the shore (mostly cedars) have died as they could not tolerate the prolonged immersion.Aug 21, 2008

Public Landing at Dunlop Lake South Shore736 viewsNear Elliott Lake.
The south shore has been sold off for cottage lots, and there is now a public landing about 2/3 down the lake. The road is signed as leading to "Dunlop Shores" and the new parking lot is near holds maybe 30 cars. There is a (mediocre) camp site right at the portage leading to Ten Mile Lake.
